APPLYING PERMACULTURE ETHICS AND PRINCIPLES TO WEAVING THE WEB
Perm culture can cover any aspect, you can in fact permaculture any thing in life.
So with that in mind I approached my permaculture diploma from a different angle, I set out to permaculture a community.
weaving in many different aspects on the way, creating a main hub that would have many diverse edges from which to grow and network from and then connecting them all together under the umbrella of permaculture.
The following show how I have incorporated the ethics and principles in to my project Weaving the Web.
PEOPLE CARE
I have discovered by working through the PDC projects that Permaculture can be applied to peoples lives.
Finding out what they are passionate about, setting them goals to inspire them to reach their dream, they become
empowered in the process.
I have already watched this start to happen with in the gatherings of Weaving the web as people
are inspired they become passionate about their lives, the energy changes around them, this in turn
encourages others to reach for their dreams and the ripples from the pebbles in the water spreads. All they require
is a small amount of encouragement and self-belief.
Permaculture starts with people when they connect deeply within themselves they find deep reserves and they
can join with others, working as a community we can then start building together.
EARTH CARE
This is about each one of us taking responsibility for ourselves, how we live and how we treat the earth, after a while it becomes apparent that by treating the earth with contempt we also do the same to ourselves.
It is my wish to introduce communities to the many resources that earth has to offer us and help to educate
them how to work with nature not against it.
Under this umbrella I have enlisted the help of a friend who has green wood working skills she has
renovated an old barn using old reserected skills utilising resources that she all ready has. she is now going on to
educate people in the old skills of renovation, the teaching of permaculture will be among those courses.
I also enlisted another friend to talk to people about retrofitting eco energy to a normal house she was happy to share this information with others.
FAIR SHARE
I have found from my community project that when communities start to work together sharing skills and
working with the earth that they naturally start to share, offering time, skills and help to each other.
I also wish to source products that are produced through fair trade
WORK WITH NATURE NOT AGAINST IT
Working with a large community of people has been a challenge, there are many different personalities in a group but by
working with the personalities involved and seeking out their strengths then utilising them rather than battling
against them this has worked well for me.
Non-violent communication has assisted me greatly with this, seeing beyond what is presented and getting to the
heart of the matter.
Finding each persons talent/skill and then encouraging it has been one of the most rewarding parts of the project,
watching people grow in confidence and become empowered through pushing thier boundaries.
WORK WITH THE RESOURCES AT HAND
Utilising the resources I already have access to:
A large email network
A large network of people with skills
I have fully utilised the resources available,I am always vigilant to be on the look out for any other resources ( venues/people/skillls/informaton) that might be useful.
Communicating with people to find out what skills they can bring to the Gatherings.
Using and encouraging local businesses and skill sets
OBTAIN YEILDS
The yields produced so far from weaving the web
Strong community spirit
Support groups
A group came together on boxing day,we included circle dance, music, chanting, gong bath and of course eating
and drinking and being merry!
A drumming group is also being formed.
Skill share groups
Self empowerment through sharing skills and talents
Creative ideas
Creative art pieces from the gatherings
Shared information taster sessions about skills/ therapies
Newsletters
Website
Networking
EDGES VALUE THE MARGINAL
I have utilised the Weaving The web hub as the largest edge with all the other sectors, networking from this hub.
I then interconnected each sector networking from this, functional connectivity, each sector comes together in a holistic aproach to form a complete picture:
Social interaction/community
Therapies
Skills and talents
Spiritual subjects
Music
Health /food/exercise
Sustainable living eco issues
Creative arts
LEVERIDGE MINIUM EFFORT MAXUIM EFFECT
In order to reach and bring together a new community an existing email hub was used which was already in circulation.
An email was sent to over a 100 addresses this was forwarded on to many more and networked out to others.
On this email list was an impressive hub of skills and therapist, we asked those who were interested in doing
taster sessions to respond to a new email address with their details.
Weaving the web was born.
I also used the gatherings to ask people if they wished to be on the website that I want to build as an extention for Weaving The Web,
this entailed a short 2 minuet video of their skill, stating who they were what their talent/therapy is and a photo.
EVERYTHING GARDEN EVERYTHING IMPACTS ON EVERTHING ELSE
The ripples from one stone thrown in a pool of water has far reaching effects and the vibrations spread a long way
by being the best possible person I can be I hope this impacts on others with good energy.
SLOW SMALL SOLUTIONS
By introducing a diverse amount of ideas to people slowly, they respond by thinking about the idea introduced at each Gathering.
A seed is planted which slowly begins to grow. This is how I have aproached many of the sectors conected to the Gatherings, not pushing an idea on to anyone
but allowing them time by the next Gathering people are asking questions about the information given from the last Gathering.
