Resources When I started to explored Working with the resources at hand which were available, I found that most of them were connected and sourced from to The Weaving The Web Gatherings; The craft and skills people. The speakers from Obee Barn, Sarah and Peta Jane.Promoting courses and permaculture action. Dena retrofitting Permaculture. The audience sourced from Weaving The Web email hub and website. I encouraged intergration rather than segregation through audience participation in the presentation by involving them in both thre talk and in the trying out of new skills. This also covered functional connectivity, Weaving The Web is something that already exists but by utilizing the resources already there it saved my time and energy which worked with leverage and 80/20, by not having to source speakers/audience from other avenues allowing me to put my energy in to other areas of the presentation. I utilsed catching and storing energy from Weaving The Web, which has a large database of skills networks of people and enthusiasm, this is an unlimited, constant renewable resource and supply of energy, a database that is growing all the time and can be sourced from again and again. It produces no waste by utilising people’s skills that would other wise remain an unused and therefore become a wasted resource. All the materials for the talk and the skill shares were sourced from nature or recycled, picked up on walks or given by people as a waste product that hadn’t yet been utilised by them. The presentation material was laminated and will be used again on future talks.
Promotion of The Green fair and courses at Obee Barn worked by stacking functions giving people an idea of what they could do with permaculture and learning new skills at the same time, this also worked with functional connectivity by utilsing an exchange of energy, and by promoting the courses at Obee and learning Powerpoint from a volunteer there, I gave the audience a pathway to discover more about permaculture ideas, although the courses are charged for the project allows people to volunteer on a particular project and learn that way. There was a Permaculture course planned for the following week and also a Green Fair the following Saturday which also promoted permaculture values and ideas. I also utilized the links on my website to include: The Permaculture Association link Transition Towns http://www.transitionipswich.org.uk/ipswich-and-transition/ Obee Barn http://www.orchardbarn.org.uk/
I worked with redundancy by bringing in as many different and diverse angles to the presentation with different guest speakers, various diverse skills demos, open forums and discusions, so that if there was a problem with one area I still had another sector to present, this nearly proved to be the case when I had to rearange one of the speakers who had family problems. I worked with nature by utilising people’s natures, I worked with the idea that if they had fun they would be more open to learning and absorbing more information. I worked on ways to present Permaculture while still giving them a fun, entertaining but informative evening, engaging them in the presentation along the way.
Lots of people I have connected with during the Weaving The Web Gatherings have told me that they feel disconnected and isolated in wanting to change things and make a positive change for the world. They don’t know where to start The problem is the solution people know there is a problem and by providing opportunities to gather together as a group we start to form communities, together we can accomplish much more, start up community projects and start to make a change, this was a big part of my presentation. By using slow and small solutions introducing permaculture to people in a user friendly manner, demonstrating to them that it isn’t hard to incorporate it in to every day life its is a state of mind. Use the edge and Value the marginal I utilised the hub of Weaving The Web which has many sections from which to extend and build the presentation from.
