People powerOne of the largest resources utilized to help to build and learn new sustainable skills at Orchard Barn are volunteers.
Students tend to learn and retain new skills when they approach them from a practical direction. The yields are then 2 fold a project is completed and a new skill is also learned. Orchard Barn also promotes teaching and sharing new sustainable skills with the local community this is a two way road, new valuable skills are learned which benefits local people, and the projects are completed in a short amount of time. The projects are promoted as using teaching methods in action. The volunteers and students learn new skills as they work on each project as a team, also gaining support from their peers. As part of the Orchard Barn team I have been offered an internship and the opportunity to gain a teaching qualification. To Learn different teaching techniques and methods to help people to learn new skills. This qualification is being paid for by grants so I wont have to pick up any of the costs. I will swap my new teaching skill and volunteer to help at Orchard Barn on different courses. |
