March 08 2012 I have decided to face my fears and put on a permaculture evening at the gathering for April, I want this evening to be fun interesting and informative so I need to work on diverse angles and present it with a different format from our normal gatherings.
March 10 As part of my work with the Barn project I have access to Ian who has corporate experience and has offered to teach me PowerPoint. As a resource it will come in handy but having seen PowerPoint presentations I feel it will be to boring and predictable but will provide me a format to build the talk on.
March 13 Bringing the talk into a workable format is proving time-consuming .I have to get some sort of basic format down as notes and photos to provide a basis for PowerPoint .
March 25 I have spent the last week getting notes and photo's together ready to put into a format for Powepoint.Due to do the Powerpoint next week. April 01 Spent 5 hours puttting Powepoint presentation together my brain was pretty shot by the end but as I suspected it is pretty mandain but I will utilise the format and build on it ,now pulling in guest speakers to pep it up and provide different angles and stimulus, also doing research to intergrate different forms of presentation and methods of stimulating the sences vision colour action hearing and touch. April 14 Now really coming together sorted guest speakers dena who has perma her house, Sarah who runs courses at Obee, the skills group at the end of the evening who will demostrate and help people to try these skills. I have formated the presentation in a way that will help with my needs I have had some EFT which has helped but also introducing other sections in to the talk I wont be centre stage for a long period of time.
Dec 2013 How I have used my presentation skills
I am now a lot more confident about presenting talks and co teaching courses. I like to present my talks in an interesting way by encouraging audience participation and creating a fun time, appealing to all abilities by including different methods and materials, this has all been assisted by completing the PTTLS course in July 2013 which has been invaluable to me. I can now put a Power point presentation together verly quickly which was presented through pedal power.
I have also learned a lot about different methods of communication through working closely with my mum who has dementia. I was able to work with different materials and methods to form effective communication skills between the 2 of us. Utilizing music, art, colour and the senses, touch sight, smell. Although this is a challenge it gave me the tools to effectively work on lots of different edges with people unable to communicate on a normal level.
